About this Site

…Few words about this site

Hi and welcome to amwls.org ! I am Nicholas Stylopoulos and have created this weblog to share my passion about research with all of you visiting this site who are interested in discovering how obesity (bariatric or metabolic nowadays)  surgery works and how we could use the animal models of weight loss surgery efficiently and effectively!

I am currently enrolled in the two-year NIH-funded training fellowship of the Harvard Program in Nutritional Metabolism at Massachusetts General Hospital and I have more than 5 years of experience in animal models of weight loss surgery. Since I am also very much interested in internet blogging and the new technologies, I thought this is a great way to combine work and play! In addition, I wanted to provide a friendly environment for scientific discussion and expression of scientific ideas and thoughts

When I created this site, I had the following goals on my mind:

  • To advance my knowledge and the knowledge of researchers on animal models of weight loss surgery
  • To facilitate the widespread use of animal models of weight loss surgery
  • To share my technical and scientific experience with researchers interested in using animal models of weight loss surgery

I am an advocate of open-source research and I believe that research resources should be openly and readily available to all researchers. A goal of amwls.org is to provide a platform for sharing experiences and establishing a network of researchers interested in amwls research

I am also an advocate and a strong supporter of animal rights and I strongly recommend that all researchers who are or will be performing research on animals read and refer frequently to the following amazing website of the Humane Society of the United States

One of the goals of amwls.org weblog is to facilitate the efficient and effective use of animals in animal studies of obesity surgery until alternatives have emerged. Through this blog, I would like to accomplish one or more of the “Three Rs”: The long-term goal is to Replace the use of animals in a scientific procedure. The short-term goals are to: Reduce the number of animals used in a procedure and Refine a procedure so the animals experience less pain, suffering or discomfort.
